In this guide to Pikmin 4 on Nintendo Switch, we'll go over on how you can do a training with Oatchi.

You'll quickly realize just how essential Oatchi, the crew dog, is during your adventure. In fact, he's the first member of the crew you'll meet at the start of the game, and he'll accompany you on your journey. He enables you to charge over obstacles, jump higher, bring back treasure, attack enemies and much more!

Fortunately, you can upgrade Oatchi's skills to make him even more effective during your missions! Just talk to Captain Shepherd about training.

It's important to know that in order to train Oatchi, you need Oatchi's motivation. This motivation arises when you complete various activities during your explorations with Oatchi. Each skill requires different numbers of motivations, which are non-refundable once you've used them in a skill upgrade.

Here's the list of training skills you can improve with Oatchi:

  • Buff: Oatchi can help by pushing objects = unlocked by default.
  • Super Buff: Oatchi can help by pushing heavy objects = unlocked by training Buff to level 3.
  • Chomp: Oatchi can inflict damage on the enemy = unlocked by default.
  • Big Chomp: Oatchi can inflict more damage on enemies and can jump on them = unlocked by training Chomp to level 3.
  • Rush: Oatchi charges at a target. This can be used to destroy obstacles or inflict damage on enemies = unlocked by default.
  • Mega Rush: Oatchi can charge at a target faster and more often = unlocked by training Rush to level 3.
  • Swallow: Oatchi swallows objects and enemies to bring them back to base = unlocked by advancing in the game and purchasing it from the training list. 
  • Doggy-Paddle: Oatchi can swim in water = unlocked when Oatchi drowns in water for the first time, the skill will be unlocked 2 days later.
  • Jump: Oatchi can jump when you're on top of him = unlocked by advancing in the game.
  • Dig: Oatchi can dig up objects or Pikmins = unlocked by default.
  • Heal: Oatchi can heal faster when injured = unblocked during training.
  • Command: Oatchi can execute various orders you give it = unlocked by default.
  • Pluck: Oatchi can pick Pikmins from the ground = unlocked by advancing in the game and purchasing it from the training list.
