How to recover the 3 Starters

DIn this guide to Pokémon Scarlet / Violet, we'll explain how to get all 3 Starters in the game without having to buy the other version. As well as getting Scarlet and Violet, we'll give you tips on how to quickly get the other 2 Pokémon Starters you didn't choose.

Capturing a ditto

Initially, you'll need to capture a Ditto, which you'll find on the Porto Marinada side of the map to the west. You'll find them all along the central/western area just above the desert.

Ditto is a Pokémon that takes on the appearance of another Pokémon, so in the wild it won't have its normal appearance. You'll need to approach a wild Pokémon and press and hold ZL to display its name and level. If you see ??? displayed, then it's a Pokémon you haven't caught yet that could be Ditto. If you have already caught Ditto, then its name will be displayed.

Buy a sandwich

Now head to West Mesagoza to find the Sandwich Shop. Go inside to buy a sandwich containing an "Egg power" to eat. This will give you an effect that will improve your egg attainment level. The higher your aura level, the more likely you are to get eggs quickly. Sandwiches have an effect that lasts for 30 minutes, after which you'll have to buy/prepare another one, but the effects are cumulative.

Having a picnic

Now change your team so that you only have two Pokémon, Ditto and your Starter. (Sprigatito, Fuecoco or Quaxly). Then head to an area outside the cities for a picnic by pressing X. Press bouton plus to recall your mount, leaving only Ditto and your starter nearby. You'll just have to wait a few seconds to a few minutes to interact with the basket to see what's inside. After a short delay, you'll get an egg from your starter in the basket. Don't forget that you can still wait a few minutes after obtaining an egg to find a new one.

Hatching an egg

Now that you have your egg, place it in your team and walk around for 2/3 minutes to watch it hatch. This will give you a new Starter Pokémon similar to the one you already have.

Trade the starter
