In this Detective Pikachu Returns walkthrough, we'll take you through the entire chapter: Detainee Pikachu.

Once you're ready, chat with Rachel Myers to progress to the next investigation. Police officers will suddenly appear to arrest Pikachu as he appears to be responsible for the destruction of property.

Detainee Pikachu

You'll start this chapter with Pikachu in a cell. Start talking to the Pokémon to find out what's going on. Then you'll meet Luxray, who seems to be the leader of the prisoners.

First day of detention (Tim's perspective - morning)

Talk to the policewoman so you can talk to Pikachu. Fortunately, Mr. Holiday is on hand to help you meet Pikachu in the afternoon.

To clear Pikachu's name, head to the fountain square to the right of the police station to find clues leading to the real culprit.

Examine the Slowpoke statue

Examine the clues near the statue:

  • Slowpoke statue
  • Piece of rock with electricity
  • Puddle
  • Burnt grass

Once you've recovered the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce which type of Pokémon was involved in the incident?

  • Choose the answer: An electrik-type Pokemon.

Where was Pikachu?

Ask people at the Hi-Hat Cafe where Pikachu was last night:

  • Pablo Millan
  • Office worker
  • Young man

Then go to the police station and talk to the policewoman to visit Pikachu and get her side of the story.

Once you've recovered the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce what was Pikachu doing when the crime took place?

  • Choose the answer: He was at the Hi-Hat Cafe.

First day of detention (Tim's perspective - evening)

On your way out of the police station, you'll run into Frank Holiday. When you've finished chatting, return to the Hi-Hat Cafe to interview others:

Once you've recovered the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce what these cubic-shaped devices are?

Second day of detention (Pikachu's perspective - morning)

Talk to the Pokémon. Sableye will challenge you to find 3 jewels hidden under the bed. Find the 3 jewels and he'll agree to help you:

  • The first is in the bowl on the floor
  • The second is in the cardboard box
  • At the top of the bed

Once you've found the 3 jewels, talk to Sableye, who will have to keep his promise by helping you communicate with Luxray. You'll find a way to get through the duct to Luxray. At the end of the discussion, visit the cell of the other prisoners through the duct and ask questions to find out more. Then return to Luxray to share your findings.

Guardroom

Using the duct, head for the surveillance room and inspect the premises for the machine that unlocks the doors. Weigh the code: 2168 which was on a piece of paper found by a Pokémon. You'll then find the police station map on the desk chair.

Find clues in the police station

Once back in Luxray's cell, board him and head for the first floor. Luxray has the ability to look through walls, so use his skill by pressing R to see if there are any humans nearby and cross the room unseen. Head left and take the stairs up to the ground floor.

Once on the ground floor, head for the first door, which is the archive room on the right, and use Luxray's skill to see if you can enter without being seen. If the human's back is to you, hurry in. Inspect the boxes for clues. You'll find a photo of surveillance cameras.

Then head for the meeting room, which is the door just beyond the archive room. Here you'll find a list of the Pokémon you're looking for. Hide behind the board if anyone enters the room. To find out what's in Butler's office, head to the roof to use Luxray's skill to see if there are any clues in the office. You'll find a duct and a safe.

Second day of detention (Tim's perspective - morning)

This time, Rachel Myers joins you to investigate. Head for the Fountain Plaza. Try to find more clues:

  • Footprint
  • Bus ticket
  • Paper ball
  • Small footprints
  • Food on the ground

Once you've recovered the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce where the other Pikachu went?

  • Choose the answer: 2nd Avenue.

Head for 2nd Avenue to advance the investigation and interview people nearby:

  • Young woman
  • Impidimp's partner (examine the coin under the small board in front of the door)
  • Young man
  • Morpeko's partner (examine the burn marks under the table)
  • Inteleon's partner (examine the laceration on the right wall)

Once you've collected the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce what is behind the sudden increase in Pokemon detainments.

  • Choose the answer: Are innocent Pokemon being detained?

Then head for the police officers on 2nd Avenue for questioning.

Once you've recovered the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce what the Pokémon Protection Bureau is doing?

  • Choose one: The PPB stages incidents.

Then find the Pokémon capable of impersonating others. It's on the left, in a courtyard further down 2nd Avenue. There you'll find Ditto's partner. Return to the police station and talk to the policewoman so you can talk to Pikachu and share your findings.

Once you've collected the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce which Pokémon is the real culprit?

You'll need to find a Pokémon capable of healing wounds. Just go and see Indeedee, who is standing in front of the Slowpoke statue. Ask him for help. Ask people nearby for clues to the situation.

Once you've collected the clues, open your investigation journal and try to deduce what these cubic-shaped devices are really for?

Then go back to the police station to see Pikachu.

Move towards the entrance hall to join Tim without being seen by the police.

Going incognito in the lobby

Enter the archive room and hide behind the Hi-Hat Cafe door. Head for the door on the right and use Luxray's skill to enter just when no policeman will see you. You'll find yourself in the same room as before (when you tried to reach Butler's office).

Go forward and hide behind the desk (see picture). Then go downstairs and hide behind the white desk (see picture). Wait until the policeman's back is turned, then head for the door on the bottom right (see picture).
