As the bloody Human-Covenant War rages on Halo, the fate of humankind may rest with one warrior, the lone SPARTAN survivor of another legendary battle... the desperate, take-no-prisoners struggle that led humanity to Halo--the fall of the planet Reach. Now, brought to life for the first time, here is the full story of that glorious, doomed conflict.

Halo: The Fall of Reach is an official novel in the Halo series narrative. Halo is a science-fiction video game series released in 2001 for PC and Xbox.

The Fall of Reach covers the events that take place just after the story of the first game, Halo: Combat Evolved. In this story, you'll follow John, a six-year-old member of the Spartan-II program who will become Master Chief,

Dr. Catherine Hasley's program aims to train 75 children for intensive combat. Later, these children will be equipped to fight against an alien race called the "Covenants" threatening humanity.

In this book, you'll discover the origin of the Spartans and their original purpose. The novel was created to lay the foundations for a series that would go on to achieve cult status. The codes of the series, the construction of the characters and the narrative of the book have been worked on in collaboration with the developers and creators of the license.

Taken out of the context of the Halo series, Eric Nylund's novel is unlikely to find much resonance. The original story is already over 20 years old, and the military scenarios have already been explored many, many times. John, the Master Chief, is unfortunately out of his time, and suffers from the stereotype of the perfect soldier.

On the other hand, the magic of this novel works for all fans of the series, who will be able to learn more about the fundamentals of the license. Halo: The Fall of Reach respects the license particularly well, and does justice to the various games.
