Mushroom Kingdom

In this Super Mario RPG Walkthrough, you'll find the complete guide to completing the first zone of the Mushroom Way. During this level, we'll show you how to get the game's first three secret chests and how to get that your first Mallow companion.

When you reach the Mushroom Kingdom area, head upstairs to enter the castle.

Talk to the Toad, then follow him down the corridor. Just before Toad goes through the first door, jump on his head to reach an area above the door. Now jump there to reveal a hidden chest containing 1x Frog Coin. If you miss this action, it's possible to retrieve this secret chest later by waiting for a new toad after the sequence in the castle.

Follow Toad to the throne room. Here you'll speak with the Chancellor and learn that Princess Peach has been captured in Bowser Castle. After your conversation, you'll be introduced to the item equipment.

Select the "Equipment" tab in the game menu. Go to "Weapon" and select the Hammer you won fighting the Marto Brothers in the "Mushroom Path" level.

Exit the throne room and take the right-hand path. Talk to the Toad at the bottom of the room, then follow him to the Treasure Room. Here you can pick up the contents of three chests. You'll find 10x Coins, 1x Flower and 1x Mushroom.

Coins allow you to buy items, spend time or even spend the night at the inn. Flowers will permanently increase your FP, the gauge will allow you to launch special abilities, and Mushrooms will restore your Heal Points or Flower Points.

Now step out of the castle to speak with a crying character near the house with a star. This character is Mallow who will join your team. Like Mario, you'll be able to equip weapons and accessories, and he'll take part in the action during battles. You'll also unlock the "Scrapbook" journal in the game's menu. The travel album will allow you to view the various stages of your Super Mario RPG adventure. 

Now enter the Inn, the building with a star. This is a building in which you can rest to recover your hit points and save your game.

Then enter the second building on the right with a Mushroom displayed above the front door. Go down the stairs to the bottom right of the room to speak with the Toadette. She'll ask you to stand in front and jump. Follow her instructions to reveal a Secret Chest containing 1x Flower. The Toadette and will give you the Signal Ring item.

Equip yourself with this ring to be alerted when you're close to hidden treasure. Before exiting the basement, jump on the Toadette's head to send him off to the right, near the stairs. Jump to this location to reveal a new Secret Chest in which 1x Flower awaits you.

Return to the floor to speak with the merchant, who will give you 1x Syrup-of-life. After the chat, take the opportunity to buy 1x Shirt and 1x Shoes for Mario as well as 1x Pants for Mallow.

Leave the building and head to the right, where a Toad guard will come out to warn you that he's seen Croco, the thief. After the cinematic, you'll see Croco heading to the "Bandit's Way". Talk to the Toad guard again, who will give you the Super Mario RPG World Map.
